The Second Session of the 14th National People's Congress opened on the morning of the 5th at the Great Hall of the People. Xi Jinping and other leaders of the CPC and the state attended the opening meeting, and Premier Li Keqiang of the State Council delivered a government work report to the meeting.
Government Work Report:
The main expected development targets for this year are:
-GDP growth of around 5%;
-Urban employment to increase by over 12 million people, and the urban surveyed unemployment rate to be around 5.5%;
-Consumer price index (CPI) to increase by around 3%;
-Resident income growth to be synchronized with economic growth;
-International balance of payments to remain basically balanced;
-Grain output to be above 1.3 trillion catties;
-Energy consumption per unit of GDP to decrease by around 2.5%, and the quality of the ecological environment to continue to improve.
